"Red Faced Parrot Finch"
Dynamic bundles of energy, a shock of vibrant contrast in color!
Description: Both sexes look like little Christmas trees with their forest green bodies topped with a
scarlet red face and bright button eyes. Round, plump little birds about 5" long. Male and female are pretty much identical so very difficult to sex.
Country of Origin: New Caledonia.
Diet: They are always the first ones down to try out a new food. Especially love apples, greens,
sprouted seed, egg food, a good Finch Mix plus Canary Grass Seed and Oats. Love meal worms.
Housing: As wide a cage as possible. If they can't fly a lot, they tend to get very fat.
If kept in mixed aviary, ensure the birds are not crowded so as to limit any aggressive behaviours.
Breeding: Prolific breeders. Must have live food and egg food. A 5x5 nest box or large wicker basket is
stuffed with coco fibre, sisal and grasses. Incubation of the eggs is 13 days with duties shared by both
parents. Some males have the bad habit of removing the head feathers from their hen. The male may
also deplume or pick on his young sons if they are not removed from the breeding pen 2 weeks after fledging.
Recommendation: A beautiful addition to a mixed aviary. Easy to breed once a true pair is found and
live food is provided to feed their young.
Red faced love their bath, try for daily baths as it keeps their feathers smooth and bright.
